Description: Small 8vo., pp.[ii], 607,[i] + additional engraved title-page. Original paper covers bound in at rear,with 'Signet Library' handwritten at head. Some dusty marks to printed title and half-title butgenerally clean within. Brown library buckram, gilt title and shelfmark to spine, gilt centrepiece ofthe Society of Writers to the Signet to upper board, top edge trimmed but the others uncut. Jointsrubbed, a few small marks, edges a bit dusty, very good.

One of the German philologist Moriz Haupt's contributions to classical scholarship, which included editions of Ovid's Halieutica and the Cynegetica of Grattius and Nemesianus (1838), of Catullus, Tibullus and Propertius (1868), of Horace (3rd ed, 1871) and this of Virgil (1873).
