Description: 4to., pp. [viii], 288 + portrait frontispiece. Tissue guard to frontis foxed, very lightly toned but generally very clean. Red cloth, gilt title to spine, black stamped decoration to boards with 'Knights Templar' and 'Knights Hospitallers' centrepiece, black endpapers. A bit cocked, endcaps and corners worn, lightly rubbed but very good.

Written by historian of Hackney Benjamin Clarke (c.1820-1906). A doctor by profession, Clarke joined the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, presenting a paper on a Roman tomb discovered in Lower Clapton. This volume is based on articles he contributed to the Hackney Mercury in 1892 and 1893.
